Our story so far...
The BioCharged Compost Company Ltd. is a family business designed to give your seedlings the best start.
When the government announced plans to ban peat from horticultural products, the seeds were sown to create a network of locally sourced, biologically rich composts and compost extracts.
Following proof-of-concept composting experiments in 2018, we are now the UK’s first company to offer gardeners, specialists, and SME growers and horticulturalists a local and sustainable alternative to traditional industrial composts.

Our knowledge in this space comes from The RhizoPhyllia School of Gardening, the UK’s first educational organisation dedicated to sharing the fundamental knowledge of the soil food web in gardening and growing.
July 2023, RhizoPhyllia’s educational workshops won the prestigious Assessor’s Award for Retail Innovation at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival.
Together, we developed BioCharged’s unique composting process to reflect how nature works. In short, we’ve weeded out the nasties in favour of nature’s recipe: right plant, right microbes.
Our love of the natural world started here.
Our founder, Eddie Bailey, is passionate about the world beneath our feet. From an early age, his love for rocks, soil, wildlife, and gardening led to a degree and career in Geology.
Having witnessed first-hand how our intensely farmed soils were becoming seriously ill, Eddie undertook a journey of discovery to heal the soil and improve plant health.
As well as being a chartered consulting geologist, a certified Soil Food Web laboratory technician, and an associate member of the British Society of Soil Science, Eddie shares his no-dig approach in eye-opening one-day workshops.
